ht://Dig - Web Site Search Utility

ht://Dig is a complete Web indexing and searching system for a domain or intranet. It is meant to cover the search needs for a single company, campus, or even a particular sub section of a Web site. As opposed to some WAIS-based or Web server based search engines, ht://Dig can easily span several web servers. The type of these different Web servers doesn't matter as long as they understand common protocols like HTTP.

Installation

Connect to your VPS server via SSH, su to root, and run the following command:

# cd /ports/textproc/htdig

# make install clean

# rehash

# mv /usr/local/etc/htdig/htdig.conf.sample /usr/local/etc/htdig/htdig.conf
Edit the htdig.conf to your needs.

Usage

Index your own site. Connect to your VPS server via SSH, su to root, and run the following commands:

# rundig

# cp /usr/local/www/cgi-bin-dist/htsearch /www/cgi-bin/

# cp /usr/local/www/data-dist/search.html /www/htdocs/

A simple search page is accessible at the following URL:

http://yourdomain.com/search.html
